We invite you to experience the serenity and harmony of this special place with us – come celebrate nature, celebrate life.

Overview:

Name: Rhulani Safari Lodge

Madikwe is one of the largest reserves in South Africa – 75 000 hectares of pristine, malaria-free bushveld located in the North West province, just a three-and-a-half hour drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria. The reserve is well known for its abundant wildlife (including the "Madikwe Top 10") and diversity of habitats, ranging from the perennial Marico River, to its large open plains, woodlands, steep cliffs and boulder-strewn koppies, to the Dwarsberg Mountains which stretch across the southern border. All private guest lodges offer visitors a unique and personalised bush adventure, going every extra mile to ensure their Madikwe memories linger for years to come. There are no day-visitor facilities and the reserve is only open to those who have made a booking at one of the lodges, which ensures that all guests are able to enjoy an exclusive safari experience.

Madikwe has the distinction of being one of the few game reserves in the world to be proclaimed purely on these grounds. It is run as a joint venture between the North West Parks and Tourism Board, the private sector and local communities. The success of this approach has made Madikwe the role model for similar ventures elsewhere in South Africa. Thousands of healthy animals have been released into the reserve, including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, cheetah, African wild dog (Madikwe is the first fenced reserve where wild dog were released), spotted hyena, giraffe, zebra and many species of antelope and herbivores. Leopards were already on the land before it was fenced off. Madikwe also boasts an incredible 350 bird species, making the reserve a paradise for any enthusiastic birdwatcher.

Children Policy: Children of all ages are welcome! Children under 12 are permitted on safari at the sole discretion of the field guide; Children under the age of 6 are not permitted on safari. A bumble drive can be organized in such cases after breakfast. Rhulani offers a complimentary children’s kit. There is a kiddie’s corner equipped with toys and DVD’s. We offer a children’s menu option. Babysitting service is available at an extra cost.

Testimonials:

“Just heaven, even in the rain”

We went in January and even in torrential rain we had an amazing time. The staff are just wonderful and our guide was really fantastic, we ended up as two sole guests in mid January and felt like royalty. It was so great we are sending our kids back in July. Cannot recommend highly enough.

“Awesome Experience!”

We had never been on Safari before and didn’t know quite what to expect, but the whole experience was beyond words. Our guide Alastair (originally from Oban in Scotland) was mind blowing – the “Rambo” of Rhulani. What he doesn’t know about Madikwe is not worth knowing about. We learnt sooooo much from him, and he gave 1000% every day in tracking the wonderful animals that we were fortunate enough to see. Early morning drives were fab seeing wondrous sunrises and magical animals, (and Alastar’s special Amarula coffee was bliss mid morning!) Also the evening drives with sundowners provided some of the most breathtaking views. The lodge was wonderful. Room was just as amazing as the pictures, bed huge and comfortable. Food was very good, and the staff were all excellent, nothing a problem for anyone – they all felt like a close knit family and always smiling. This is the experience of a lifetime and we would certainly recommend this to anyone thinking of a Safari holiday.
